Coffee’s strong 2019 performance relative to other agricultural commodities was followed by a spectacular crash this year that left investors reeling. Prices have stabilized for now but the direction going forward is a complete toss of the coin, it seems. On the one hand, there are serious supply disruptions in South America and Africa that could send prices up by 50%. On the other hand, there’s Coronavirus and a rapidly depreciating Brazilian real that could send coffee prices tumbling. We’ve identified two catalysts that could be the determining factors.
